İztuzu
A beach the turtles got to first
Four and a half kilometres of sand between the river and the sea, and a loggerhead nesting ground before it was ever a beach. That is why it closes to visitors overnight in nesting season.
- Nesting
- May to July, sometimes into August. Females come ashore roughly every fifteen days and make about three nests a season.
- Hatching
- July to October, about two months after each nest is laid.
- At night
- The beach closes to visitors overnight through the season. The exact hour is posted at the entrance.
- Getting there
- Boat down the channel from town, or the dolmuş over the hill. The boat is the better ride.
- Best time
- Early morning or late afternoon — there is very little shade in the middle of the day.

- When
- Saturday morning. By early afternoon the best of it is gone.
- Gözleme
- Order it on the way in, collect it on the way out.
- Worth buying
- Whatever the villagers brought — peppers, grapes, olives, dried noodles.
- Bring
- Cash and your own bag. Small notes make everything faster.
